YG Marley is an American singer and rapper who is the son of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, and the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley. He gained international prominence in late 2023 with his debut single “Praise Jah in the Moonlight“.
Career and Background
Born Joshua Omaru Marley, he was raised in New Jersey and often joined his mother on stage during his childhood, declaring his desire to rap at one of her concerts when he was nine. “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” became a global hit, peaking within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and earning RIAA platinum certification. The song was co-written by his mother and samples his grandfather’s 1978 track “Crisis”.
