Biography

Artist Bio

Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer in Kingston, Jamaica, is one of dancehall’s most influential and controversial figures. Rising in the early 2000s with a string of street anthems, he earned nicknames like “Worl’ Boss” and “Teacha” and is frequently cited as a standard-bearer and “king” of modern dancehall.

Even while incarcerated, Kartel has remained a dominant voice in the genre, releasing music that has shaped slang, fashion, and sound across Jamaica and the diaspora. His catalogue—from gritty hardcore tracks to crossover hits like “Clarks” and “Fever”—continues to influence new generations of dancehall and hip-hop artists worldwide.
